The Cullen wine dinner was held Wednesday 13 August in Rumba Wine Bar located basement level
at Sails Restaurant. We had a full house of 25 attendees, most of who are listed with the exclusive Sails Wine Dinner membership and are regular diners at Sails, but also some lucky visitors from New Zealand who just stumbled across the information at Noosa Information Centre immediately booked!
It was an incredible night of wine appreciation against Chef Paul Leete’s special 5 course degustation, commencing with stand-up canapes (picked radish with goats curd, and Mooloolaba tuna tostidados – a favourite!) washed down with Cullen Mangan Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon, followed by a table seating greeted by Scallops Mornay together with Cullen Kevin John Chardonnay, then Duck in Brik Pastry matched with Cullen East Block Red (Petit Verdot/Malbec) and finally Lamb and winter veges served with Cullen Diana Madeline Cabernet Blend (both current and back-vintages poured!). To finish, Baklava dessert was served against Cullen Late Harvest Semillon.
Vanya lead the table on a journey of history and philosophy surrounding the Cullen Winery and the region of Margaret River, particularly highlighting the ground-breaking achievements her and her family achieved in Bio-dynamic cultivation. It was indeed an enormous insight to sample the wines whilst being immersed in the thoughts and values of this great Australian wine-maker. The night finished on an all-time high, when Vanja offered the table a song using her opera-trained voice! This encouraged more song from other highly talented singers at the table!
